Chicago (Thus. July 1)

Bright and early this morning we headed back to Chicago (though late enough to miss rush hour in this crazy city). We stared out at Lou Mitchell's a very famous restaurant on old Route 66. It is a few blocks from the original start of 66. Lou's is well know for their breakfast so it sounded like a great way to start the day. Breakfast was awesome and very filling. After breakfast we met a gentleman known as "Windy City Road Warrior". Dave is an expert on Route 66 and well versed in Chicago history and architecture. He has written books on Route 66 and has done a lot of research on the topic. He offers personal tours. Only $15 per person for a two hour walking tour. Seemed like a bargain to me. I really enjoyed the tour. He had so many intersting facts about Chicago and the old Route 66. If you are every going to be in Chicago I suggest you spend some time with this guy.

After the tour was over we spent some time walking around Chicago on our own checking out things such as Millenium Park and Grant Park. We stopped at the Federal Reserve Bank and learned a little bit about counterfit bills, how the fed works and what a million dollars in ones looks like!!

Next we stopped for pizza spot number two. Of course by now it was already 3:00 because after that huge breakfast no one was hungry until now. We got another wonderful deep dish pizza. It was delicious and so filling that there ended our pizza tour. We could not eat another bite the rest of the day. Our suggestion - plan a pizza tour if you are in Chicago but make sure you are here for about a week if you want to do it justice!!

After pizza we headed over to the Willis Tower (used to be called the Sears Tower) and took an elevator up the 103 stories to the observation deck. What a wonderful view of Chicago!! The boys really enjoyed this stop. It was the highlight of their day.

We headed back to the hotel around 5:30 thinking maybe with a swim and some down time we would be able to make it to one more pizza joint. Wrong!!!! We will just have to come back to Chicago sometime and hit up a few more pizza parlors.
